Exploring Robotics through VEX IQ

July 13-17

Half-day: 8:45–11:30 a.m.    $250

Grades 4-8

Campers will design and build simple machines using VEX IQ components, then build a basic robot integrating motors and sensors, and learn to control the robot through remote control or programming with VEXcode. VEX IQ components are specifically designed for upper elementary and middle school students.

Through a series of hands-on team activities with VEX IQ, campers will explore the design, engineering, and programming of robots. VEX IQ is a snap-together accessible robotics system that requires no tools but incorporates complex motors and sensors. VEXcode Blocks lets campers use simple drag and drop color-coded commands to create functioning programs and control the VEX IQ robots.

To start, campers will build a series of simple machines and complete a chain reaction challenge, then move on to incorporate more advanced motors and mechanisms, using sensors to allow for remote and program control of the VEX IQ robot. VEX IQ sensors connect quickly and measure time, position distance, rotation, and sense touch.

Campers will work together in small groups, and complete activity challenges each day. No prior experience with programming necessary!

Campers may join other MB camps in the afternoon but must register separately.
